The other day I swapped out my headlight for one of the fancy superwhite premium bulbs. The job went smoothly, but inside the headlamp itself, I found another, tiny, 12V bulb. What's this one for? Maybe a running light? I am in Canada, so of course, our machines are wired to run with the headlight all the time. Is it different in other jurisdictions?
Cheers,
R

It's the Parking Lamp.
When you turn the ignition key to Park, it turns on with the tail light. (In theory at least.)

Ahh, I see. It's never worked since I've had the bike, 'cuz it's burnt out.
I will replace it at first opportunity, so that I can do some grade "A" parking.

Don't park for long or you'll have a dead battery because the tail light is also on.Ritchard wrote:I will replace it at first opportunity, so that I can do some grade "A" parking.

My tail light is a 5 W luxeon LED 1157 replacement. With that I could park for a good long time without worrying about the battery.

Re: What's this lamp for?
Speaking of LED's, is there a bulb type that'll fit in for the headlight parking lamp?
Thanks

Re: What's this lamp for?
After a little research (very little), I may have found something that'll work.
This shows it's for "LED replacement bulb module for the Parking lamp in BMW headlight assemblies."
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/pr ... sp?Item=RV
This "should" limit current draw and have a more substantial life than standard filament bulbs. (Provided it's the correct size.)
Sorry to resuscitate an old threat, but thought someone might be looking for this as well.
