Electrical connector under driver's seat

Hi everybody,
I'm a new owner of a 2000 R1100R. I noticed that under the driver's seat is a cable and a plugin for the cable, but I don't know what it's for. I couldn't find mention of it in the manual.

Maybe the previous owner installed a pigtail for a battery tender.
What;s the connector look like? What's on the other end?

Does your bike have ABS? If not, it could be some of the wiring for ABS that is, of course, not connected to anything.

If it's the blue plug you are talking about, its the connector for the diagnostics.

I got the photo of the connector and wire I'm talking about. But can't figure out how to upload it to this message board. Anyways I think it's used for diagnostics, I just don't know what the cable is used for.

Have not seen an R1100R with a carbon canister; but just judging from other oilheads I have seen:

That looks like the connector to the solenoid valve which opens and shuts the tube that leads from the carbon canister to the airbox. It's a Kalifornia smog thingy. What happens is, the carbon canister gets fouled and stinky; so then guys remove it. What you should do is remove the canister but leave the solenoid in place, and plug the connector back in. Otherwise, the Motronic thinks its out of whack, and goes to some default setting.

That's my guess.

If you get the wiring diagrams you can piece it together by the colour codes of the wires...

Looks like it goes to the air temperature sensor in the airbox cover. (just to the right of the plug in the picture.)

Maybe the last person to change the air filter unplugged it, and forgot to plug it back in?
Or it might be unplugged because the air temperature sensor is defective, and the bike works better with it unplugged than with a defective sensor (?)
Plug it back in and see what happens...
Or remove the temperature sensor and test it? (or ask your mechanic to do that?)

The sensor is the thing in the middle. That connector goes to it. I've just been and looked at my bike again. I'm 100% sure. The connector plugs into the top of that sensor.

That is indeed the connector to the air-sensor sticking out of the airbox (that stick right in the middle of the airbox). It is an integral part of the fuel injection.

Thank you everyone that answered my post. Next Spring I'll reconnect the wire and see what happens. Maybe my fuel efficiency will improve.
