Corroded Bits!

My R1200 R is about to turn two. I keep it garaged all the time yet I am noticing corroded bits here and there. My bolts on the front brake rotors, metal bit where the throttle cable leaves the right grip, metal tube for the oil cooler, etc. Probably 98% of the bike is unaffected which makes me wonder if these bits are just "sub-standard". I generally avoid riding in the rain, but I wouldn't think that the odd soaking should affect a bike like this. After all they are outdoor vehicles!

Anybody else noticing this? This is my first BMW. I'm loving it but this is not what I was expecting.

I have not noticed anything like that on my bike. I suppose I should look more closely.

I read something about this with BMW bikes on another forum. I was considering hosing down my entire bike with CorrosionX. I was concerned that the protective film would then attract dirt making a big mess but I haven't figured that out yet. I don't have any experience with this product.

if you live by the ocean or take frequent rides by the ocean you may have the salt accumulating on the bike......just going through the moist, salty air will definately do that. I take frequent rides by the ocean but make sure to give my bike a wash at least every other month......this will wash off the salt and keep your bike like new....

I live on the north east coast over-looking the sea. My bike is kept covered but open to the elements at the moment and its starting to show

The brake disks are showing rust around the inside edge near the bolts and the steering dampener has a small chip which rusts up between weekly washes - the ball-joint where it joins the wheel is covered with a dull fur too which never comes off

Does this corrosion-x stuff kill off the rust, or do you have to scrub it off and then treat?

Hi all, newbie here.
I've been using ACF 50 for a couple of years now and found it to be excellent at preventing corrosion (just make sure you take measures to prevent it getting on your brakes and any other things you don't want to lube) Scottoil 365 is OK, but does wash off in the rain.
