I'll be there. May be tapped to give a talk on farkling a hexhead - I know I'm giving that talk at the RA rally the next weekend. I'll be around the Ambassador's table at least part of the time, should be working registration Friday AM with the rest of our local club (we take over one shift at each national rally - it's great fun - you get to meet lots of nice people coming in to register.) I'm staying at the Comfort-Inn (I think.. have to look) in Johnson City.

I'll be there. I live very near by. Me and all of my MOB buddies.
Not camping Don?
Camping keeps you young.
I have a small rally to go to in the middle of the week before MOA in the beautiful moutains of Tennessee and then the RA rally after so I'll be doing a camping marathon.
I'll see yall there.

This is just a ride over the hill for me too. I took a ride to the location last week. There is a huge area for vendors and what looks like a BMX/MX track, but the gates were closed so I couldn't see the camping area.
Re: 2009 BMWOA Rally 7/16-19/07 Johnson City, Tenn
I can't remember a National that had real nice camping, usually ends up being tent peg to tent peg. Nice part about camping is that you get to meet new people, if you stay in a motel you tend just to socialize with the people you came with. I usually camp. My problem now is I can't remember all the people I've met.
Right now my plans are to skip the RA National and head out to the 'Top of the Rockies Rally' in Colorado.

Re: 2009 BMWOA Rally 7/16-19/07 Johnson City, Tenn
Nope. It would take me about 60 minutes to get out of the tent in the morning (arthritis) and it's an ugly sight. I really had to pretty much give up camping a few years ago 'cause of that. I'll "cabin" camp at rallies that offer it (Square Route, Last-Chance), and if I'm feeling like I REALLY need a rally - I have been known to camp at Damn Yankee's because there is no other option.celticus wrote:I'll be there. Sounds like a plan. I'm doing a ride to no-where in particular the week between MOA and RA - figure I'll visit parts of TN that I've never been to, then wander into Kentucky (which I've never ridden in, but after driving through I've wanted to), and then I can easily find a day or two of riding in West Virginia... should fill the time between the two rallies nicely. Have some friends in Asheville NC who I might drop in on also.I have a small rally to go to in the middle of the week before MOA in the beautiful moutains of Tennessee and then the RA rally after so I'll be doing a camping marathon.

Re: 2009 BMWOA Rally 7/16-19/07 Johnson City, Tenn
I’m planning on going.
My plan is:
Tuesday July 7: Leave Toronto Canada and ride to Front Royal Virginia: about 466 miles. Camp around Front Royal
Wednesday July 8: Ride from Front Royal to Fancy Gap Virginia: about 330 miles. This ride will be on the "Blue Ridge Parkway".
Camp around Fancy Gap.
Thursday July 9: Easy ride to the Rally: about 140 miles
Hoping this is a good route.
Anybody want too meet up?
Also I'm hoping there will be a number of Distributors there.
Looking to try on some clothing, including Gerbing"s Heated Clothing
Do you think Cee Bailey's will be there with Windshields?

You may want to consider stopping 20 miles North of Fancy Gap where Rt58 crosses the BRP. Go West of the Parkway about .5 miles on Rt58 and stay at Willville motorcycle campground. Usually a bunch of Euro bikes. I'll be staying about one mile away at a friends house across from Mabry Mill on the BRP and will most likely stop by Willville to see who's there. This is one of my favorate campgrounds in Southern Virginia, nice place, nice guy that runs it.
Here's a link: http://www.willvillebikecamp.com/
BTW: There's a small motel between the Parkway and the campground but I don't know anything about it.
BTW-1: I would also suggest skipping the Skyline Drive it's 35MPH and will take 3+ hours to get to Waynesville. Take Rt340 to Waynesville (Gas Up) and then get on the Blue Ridge it's a nicer road to spend your time on. Watch your Gas, their is no gas on the BRP. I have a list somewhere which exits have gas, if I find it I'll post it. I've spent a lot of time in that area.
