Do not, I repeat, do not buy an early K1200LT they had a miriad of first model issues the worse being destruction of the FD (final drive). If you like the K, go after a '05 model or newer....do your search on issues.

The only real issue I have with the R1200RT is that it won't "trickle" at very low speeds easily. The R1150 series engines would tick over and provide enough torque to ride at slower than walking pace (brilliant for tight city riding). But the R1200 engine, as standard, has been so perked up for high-speed performance that there's not enough low-rev torque to do it without a lot of clutch slip.

Very good suggestion and I agree 100 percent.
After traveling long distance with my better half, I also was looking at the K1200LT and almost got 2001 with very little mileage on it.

Is absolutely correct too, not to mention more horse power on the later models plus automatic center stand.
So, I got 2006 K1200LT with all the goodies on it plus beautiful aftermarket seats, backrest for me and armrests for the passenger.
I like my LT, but when I travel alone, I prefer my R1150R. After taking an LT for a short rides, like 200 miles on the back roads, I am finding my self NOT having any fun on the bike.
Actually, I get more use out of my R1500R (my second one) than from an LT. If the price is right, the RT is a very good choice, but nicely equipped R1150RA is just as good as an RT.
There is no bike that I know of, that will do everything you need, but R1150 is as close as you can get to the versatile bike.
