Birthday Ride

Turned 64 today; Will you still need me, will you still feed me...high school class of 64 age; so I worked this morning; came home at noon and put on all the gear and headed into East San Diego County where we have tons of curves and two lanes and it was 80 degrees today....sorry about the rest of the country. We are expecting rain by weekend.

I think I have about 5-6K miles under me since I bought the R1100R in late April this year and traded it for the R1200R in late May. Things are starting to come together in the ride department. I've taken a bunch of classes, Keith Code, Walt Fulton, Lee Parks, and I'm trying to ride more with the local club.

Ok so all the stuff I read about the R1200R on the forum....it's all true. This bike has serious grunt .... amazing torque and power in just about any rpm range. I let a cruiser type go by me and thought I'd follow him for a while; that got boring quickly and I nailed three gears on a short straight and he disappeared in the rear view. Life is good.

Nice review. I get down that way once in a while and ride Palomar. That's a great area to ride.

Happy Birthday Max, good to here you are enjoying your R12R and better to see that at 64 you are still able to ride.
Here's to another 10 years \:D/

Happy Birthday Max.

HS Class of '64 makes you 64 years old this year. Probably born in '46. Interesting combinations of 4's and 6's. I know all this because... I'm in the same class.

Couldn't agree more about those wonderful R12's either. They just keep getting better.

I hope you didn't wear your birthday suit on the ride.

Have you seen "BMW R1200R Vs. Palomar Mtn. Road"? It's one of the best-made R12R videos I've seen.

From the video shooter: "This should clear up any misconceptions about BMW motorcycles being slow. Palomar Mtn. Road is as crooked as a politician, nearly every corner you see is almost a complete 180 degree turn."

Thanks! I have seen this. It's well done. That is an intense bit of road and the R12R handles it beautifully.

I'm another '46 64er. There's a lot of us post war baby boomers about. We're maturing like good wine  Only trouble is eventually wine turns to vinegar :P
At least my R1200R keeps me young, I hope!

Phil - from a minus3C England with snow forecast to follow last weeks minus 14C and 16inches of snow. Roll on Springtime.
