R1150R top box / rack

Post by Denis99 »

Hi

I'm a newbie here who could do with some advice.

I have a 2004 R1150R with the standard BWM rear rack, attached to the pannier rails.

I've also got a Hepco and Becker Junior top box.

Is there a conversion fitting plate for the BMW rack to enable the fitting of the H&B top box?

Image below of the rack.

Thanks in anticipation.

Never seen one but HB did used to have a rear rack that bolted directly to the system case handles in place of your rear rack. Welded steel and a lot stronger than that rather flimsy plastic one. I'm not sure they still make it as I haven't seen on for sale in a while.

looks like u can still get the sw-motech rack with hepco adapter from these 2 places

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/pr ... /2742/246/
http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorc ... 1-732.html

but it does say this on the twistedthrottle site:
Original BMW sidecarrier (and topcarrier) must be removed to use the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack toprack.

g'luck man!! i ended up getting the givi rack and maxia 55 topcase. givi rack works with the bmw sidecase racks

Best solution I found was the Givi rack part no SR683. This fits to the system rails and adds exta support to the top box. I removed the Givi mounting plate and drilled appropriate holes in the base plate of my Shad top box to allow it to bolt to the Givi rack.

Depending which side of the pond you are on you can purchase one from http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/pr ... w/789/487/

or from http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/ ... 5_90_FN_15

Maybe you have what you want-but I use the Pederson luggage mt, fastened to the OEM sidecase frames & have Shad topcase mtd to that. The Pederson is bullet proof. The Shad cases come with a mtg plate included-unlike the GIVI!!! Their mtg hardware will likely mt to the OEM luggage rack if you plat around a bit. My Shad 42 liter case cost very little more than a Givi mtg set up and Shad makes the BMW cases so quality is not an issue.

+1 XDot

I use that HB rack in the place of the silver shelf in your picture. I do use the 41 or 42 liter topcase though, if that makes a difference...I don't know.

It is plug and play with the BMW side case rails and is VERY sturdy and well constructed.

Don't know the box - but if it's a relatively small one, save yourself some money and buy a plastic bread-board. :)

then cut & fit the board to slot tightly into the location the silver rack is in, then drill 4 holes in the box base to locate into the same 4 holes that the rack uprights use to bolt the silver plate to the uprights. To make the whole stiffer, make up a dural plate that goes in the base of the box, with the 4 bolts going through it.

Works fine - I have a 35litre (ish) box on my bike like that, been fine for daily use for the past 4 years or so. :)

Are they still importing? I tried the Binetto Group website and got a placeholder. The Shad website never materialized. Who is selling their stuff? Me thinks they may be Tango-Uniform.

I did this with a universal plate and Givi box. Board cost £2.99, and the flat surface is more stable than the curved silver BMW plate in my opinion.

I've found the H%B rack in the UK and ordered it from Motobins - should be with me soon.

Hey now THAT would be neat and I could lash my laptop backpack to that easily, plus you could mount about any rectangular case to that! Need to figure out if Motobin will ship to US or something...(Scurries off)

Will your H-B case index to the same key that does the system cases?

If they do we could do a double order and save on shipping?

No, the keys don't match up - they are quite different in their cutting shapes.
