OIL...what type, what weight?

Post by sssnakehunter »

Hi,

I am going to change the engine oil in my 2004 Rockster. I have read many different opinions on synthetic VS regular oil, and I wanted to see what other Rockster owners are using. Also, what weight is good for warm summer temps.

Thanks,

Jay

I have been using Castrol GTX - 10w40 in Winter, 20w50 otherwise - for the past 5 years. At first I used 20w50 year round but the bike was difficult to start below 40 degrees.

20-50 GTX year round, -20 through 100+. Ran that way since 300 miles, sitting at 36,000. Did try mobil 1 for 3k but went back to dino. My buddy runs the cheapest oil he can find, 76k and no issues.

Bell-Ray 20W50; oil consumption is much lower compared to Castrol

Have to admit I'm still using the Castrol "Actevo" 10W40 mineral it came with....
