got shocks back
got my suspension back after having it revalved and regassed with a new rear spring and my question is does any body know what the base setting is. everything was returned on the softest settings with the preload completely wound out. getting the shocks rebiult cost $640 aussie dollars so im hoping that was the cheaper option as opposed to getting new after shocks. just need to get them set up properly.
Re: got shocks back
You need to check with your dealer on settings, but my experience is that base settings are set up for you so no preload is required unless you change your load using bags or a rider. Then you have to make your own dynamic sag measurement to determine what those preload setting will be.
Re: got shocks back
So razz, you've had the OEM rear shock rebuilt and what you're asking is what were the spring preload and damping settingsDoes any body know what the base setting is?
when the bike was rolled out new from the factory. I'm sure you're aware that suspension can be tuned for the individual rider (viz weight, riding style etc.) but at this point that's not what you're asking about.
There may be someone out there who has a memory for these things but they would need to know what bike you have.
You have posted this thread on the 1150R forum but your profile says that most of your posts have been on the Rockster forum.
So help us out here razz - What bike have you got?

Razz,
It might be worth your while to post this query on the Rockster forum as well.

Re: got shocks back
I recently googled "pre load r1150r setting" or something like that and found the instructions how to set the preload.
You need a yardstick--some sort of firm measuring device--and an assistant.
It's easy. I used my reference a spot on the rails for the side cases.
you need to know the rear travel of the RR. I think it's 5.3" ?????? It's on this site where the specifications are.
edit: looked it up...yes 5.3"
You want the travel to be "ballpark" 25% of that for your pre-load. It can be set lower or higher, like 20-30%, depending on your riding.
I think those numbers are right, and someone correct me if I am wrong, but you can find how to do it on line.
Mine come back today: Wilbers/ Ted Porter/ Woo Hoo.
