Full Moon to Nowhere

With a full moon, clear skies, and time on my hands, I rode 150 miles to nowhere this week between 2 am and 5 am. Here's what's open in and around at that hour.

Sheetz 24 hr Service Station and Convenience Store. Good coffee. 11 miles from home.

All night Super Wal Mart. 32 miles from home. Stuff.

No name diner. 62 miles from home. Bad coffee.

Seven-Eleven convenience store at Train Station. Large selection of unmade coffee - still brewing. Stuff. Cheap gas. 67 miles from home.

Bob and Edith's Diner, Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA near Pentagon, sort of. Coffee, religious pontificators in parking lot, cab drivers, and non-English speaking cooks. Good food, friendly, pleasant. 98 miles from home.

Pentagon. 103 miles from home. Always open. Good soldiers, moderately adequate leaders, cute secretaries, armed guards.

The Monuments. Washington DC. Night is a good time to explore which roads go where and which guards are awake from Arlington to Capitol Hill. Get back to Virginia before the 5:00 am rush starts.

I may do the same thing during our summer.
Our club had what they call an "Icicle Ride" last Saturday which starts at midnight and ends at 6am......in the dead of winter!

Can you take some pics next time? Would be interesting to see some of those monuments and cafe's at night. Digital cams can take good shots
now at night and night gives a new perspective on familiar landmarks.
(I would imagine the security at the moment would be phenomenal, something we have not really seen here, but given the events of the past couple of weeks in particular, we may see very soon.)

Great Ocean Rd to Lorne and back would be a goodie......with a pre dawn swim at Fairhaven.......

I sorta gave up on cameras when I realized I got few usable shots and I didn't want to learn another new way to post pics.

Normally, I would question that anyone actually sampled the coffee at all those places, but knowing you, I have no doubt that you did!

btw...the emegency dept at work goes crazy every full moon...all the loonies are out.

Riding along the ocean at night would be great.
