GPS Connection

Post by whizzkidd »

Hi there,

Is there a plug like the one in R1200R to power up the GPS unit?
If not any advice to connect the unit?

yes you can install an OEM hella plug socket near the starter motor, avaialable from dealer - 5 min job.
this will be powered all the time, so theoretically, could run our battery flat if left connected.
Alternatively you can wire up a solenoid to the battery switched from an ignition-on circuit, meaning its off when the motor is off (recommended)

apologies , i wasnt all that clear, the plug connection is waiting behind the starting motor cover - you should find it tucked up in there ready to receive the OEM socket

No, there is no accessory power connector in the R1150R wiring harness similar to the R1200 bikes.

In order to route bike power to a front/handlebar location, you can use the OE power socket located in the starter cover (as referred to in the above post), or do what most of us have done: install an auxiliary fuse block like the Centech AP-1 for power supply to GPS, heated gear, aux lights, etc.

Do a search here for "Centech" to see some examples.
