How Many $$ for an '09?

Post by sky_sailor »

Looking at a very mint (3700kms) black '09.
2009 R1200R: Night Black, 3700 km. Clean, classic looks with sport windshield, Comfort seat, chrome valve covers, onboard computer, centrestand, heated handgrips, clear turnsignals and BMW Touring top case. With a fresh Annual Service, this very clean low-kilometres bike is covered by BMW warranty and Roadside Assistance until August 2013. $12,890.
That's the ad. Very reputable dealer in Canada. Thoughts?

considering its a dealer not a bad price, but there is room to negotiate, you should be able to lower it

You didn't state if it has ABS. No idea about Canadian prices or current prices in general. If I see one advertised locally on CL they are usually closer to $10k. Do you have lists a la Blue Book for the Canadian market? Despite of the mileage it's 3 years old, and I don't consider low mileage a bonus.

No ABS in the ad, so I'm assuming the answer is no.

NO AbS, then the price should be lower, but like stated above me, Canadian market maybe different

Was ABS even optional then? Seems like they almost all have ABS and one would have had to specifically order it without ABS.

Prices are higher in Canada, but that seems a bit high to me. That's to be expected from a dealer, you could probably talk them down. I paid $8600 for my '08, which had 6800 miles on it, last July. From a private seller. It had a ZTechnik windshield, but no bags or farkles came with it. At the time I thought I was getting a great deal, now I'm not so sure if I did. Love the bike despite a couple of niggles.

You can get ABS added for under $500, if you have the right dealer (I do, and I did).

I purchased my 09 in 2010. It was a base leftover and I paid $11,500.00 with a luggage rack and panniers bracket...

I did not know that. I didn't think BMW would hand out the codes? Is it a big job? 500$ probably very well spent. You'd get way more than that back in resale.

Ooops, I was totally off base there! I spaced and thought we were talking
ASC. Of course ABS requires all sorts of expensive hardware as well as software. Sorry for a really dumb post!!!

See, that is undeniable proof that ABS and even ASC cannot prevent all driver errors. :D

Not sure if not having ABS is such a bad thing?
BTW, what is ASC? Automatic suspension control?

Hi Sailor! (Gee, that sounds weird; don't get the wrong idea!)

ASC is "Automatic Stability Control", which is a form of traction control. It keeps the rear wheel from over-spinning on loose or slippery stuff, and also prevents wheelies. Now that I have it, I quite like it. But I regard ABS as much more important as a save-my-a** feature.

Another feature of ASC is that it keeps the rear wheel toward the rear of the bike on wet grass. With the low weight and high low end torque these bikes get sideways really easy with the fat stock type road tires on wet grass.

I don't have it, but if I had it to do over again I would go for it.

Funny, I was "cured" from wanting one of these things. I seem to have caught the sickness again. Now I'm asking myself if I can warrant a new one? What would a new on do for me that an '09 wont? Except the obvious ABS factor? And one more sumer of warrantee?

How "upgraded"? More power? Better mpg? Just curious.
