throttle cable lube - at the splitter?

Hi,
I lubed the upper cable from the grip of a 2009 R1200R (12,000 miles). I didn't plan on removing the tank to take apart the splitter and lube those two cables. Does anyone do that as regular maintenance if they are not having any problems?

As far as I know you never lube the cable. If you lube it you get some dust in there and it will stick. Pretty soon it's stuck.

Actually - it's a BAD thing to lube any BMW cable. They are nylon or teflon lined, and the lubricant is absorbed by the plastic liner which then swells up causing the cable to bind. You've just fixed it until it's broken sort of thing. I'd plan on replacing the cable you lubed before it binds up causing an accident. (And I know some aftermarket manuals suggest doing this - but it's the boilerplate part which usually includes the silly spark-plug reading chart that ALL their manuals have. You will not find it suggested in any official BMW manual.)

Don't lube the throttle cable/s! If you want to lube something it would be the throttle grip (use non-sticking silicone spay).
