Rockster or not ?

Post by ron prior »

After looking at Don,C's photos...I got to thinking....always dangerous... [-X

I have an 04 Dark Ferro Roadster ..? When I got it it had the black "Rockster-type" block decals on it. Tank, side trim, and the valley of the beak. It had "R1150R" in white across the tank and on the side trim. Well the blocks were "tattered" on the edges, and just looked ragged to me. So I removed all that. Did I Un-Rockster it and make it a "Roadster"? I wasn't aware of a Ferro blue Rockster ? but perhaps I had one & didn't know it ? It also had the color matched wheels, which BTW I have repainted & polished the outer flange...which too me really looks nice. Brightened it up. It does have the round headlamp though!

Was there a Ferro Rockster?

Dark Ferro is a Roadster. A lot of things crossed over from that and the Bumblebee paint schemes. But both of those have the single round headlight making it the Roadster.

As said - single round headlight = Roadster (R1150R), twin lights GS style = Rockster.

There was a 2-tone bluey-grey (Ferro) Rockster produced for the last year - they look rather good. Lob, who (I believe) infrequents this forum has one. (I know him via TheRevcounter.com).

That is different...and sorta rare? I would prefer the darker grey be glossy...but yeah I like it!

I thought about converting mine to a Rockster/GS headlamp...but it started looking really costly. I thought with the Rockster stripes...I could have some folks scratching their head.

The stripes design was first used on the R1150R 'YellowJacket' iirc.

I believe the rockster has a wider rear rim & tire than the roadster and does not have the roadsters "beak".

Have the exact same bike, previous owner removed the white 1150 decals but the black blocks are still in place. Even folks at the dealer will sometimes think it a rockster.
