2004 R1150R idles fast and runs rough

Post by UT R1150R »

2004 R1150R - 50,000 miles.

I recently replaced the main seals, clutch, transmission input and output seals as well as the slave cylinder. I put it all together and it ran like a million bucks until I discovered that the main seal was leaking after about 100 miles.

After a few hours of grumpiness I pulled out my tools and tore it apart again in 2.5 hours. 8 hours last night and I had it ready to go again and then I started it...

It idled fast (about 2,000 rpm) and ran rough.

It sounded like it did around 36,000 miles when the stick coils went out. I replaced them at that time and it ran well again. I'd be surprised if the coils have gone bad already. I checked throttle cable play and all looked good. Also, the vacuum lines were still connected to the bottom of the TBs.

I did notice one strange thing though about those two vent lines that come out of the tank. One of them goes, I don't know where. The other one isn't connected to anything on the non-tank end. I tried plugging it while the bike ran with no change in performance.

It is the overfill drain that is not connected to anything, which doesn't sound like a big deal but I think it's worth mentioning

Can someone please give me some advice here? I'm dying to ride my baby again =P~

sounds like one of the throttle cables has jumped out of it's little adjustment ferrule at the TB end.

Thanks for your reply. By ferrule, do you mean the semi-circular plate with the groove where the cable runs? Or do you mean the cable housing has popped out of where it normally sits and is resting against something else, effectively opening the throttle a little bit too much?

Here is a pic of normal placement for example. If I understand correctly, are you suggesting that the cable housing has pulled up and is resting on the knurled portion seen in the pic?

(or maybe it has something to do with the bee wedged in there haha!!)

Good news!

I went home during lunch and checked the things that riceburner mentioned in this thread as well as other related air / fuel stuff. It turns out one of the airbox tubes was not completely attached to the right TB. Once I corrected that, she ran like normal again.

Good to know it's sorted.

Yes - I meant 'check if the cable end had popped out of the knurled adjuster'. :)
