Fuel Leak

Post by pcplodd »

Any know why my high pressure line would leak when I first start my bike and then stop leaking after it runs? Anything to do with the quick disconnect?

don't know, but mine had a leake too. It was cold, freezing, and when my bike got warm, it stopped. something with the connections. Can't help you.

Chances are the OEM clamps are leaking. Many have had this problem and there was a recall to have them checked last year. Most folks have replaced the OEM clamps with fuel injection clamps from AutoZone.....Or it may be a nicked o-ring on the QD

I recently had that problem. Funny thing, I never had an issue until the dealer did the check and said it was ok...... Actually, the dealer was doing some service on my bike (clutch slave failure) and in the process they damaged the paint on my tank. They had it re-painted. When I picked up the bike one of the items they mentioned they did was the fuel leak recall. I found it funny that it never leaked until they checked to see if it was leaking.

Mine was leaking where the fuel line connects to the tank. I had to loosen the clamp (I had already replaced mine with real fuel injector clamps) and move the end of the hose up further on the tank outlet.

The symptom you describe is exactly as my situation. Leaks when the bike is cold and stops after it warms up.

Actually the culprits are not the clamps on the quick connects, but the ones that attach the rubber hose to the tank fittings. This is due to the slick surface of the metal pipe and the lack of tension on the clamp.

Next time you have the tank out replace the compression clamps with the screw clamps. Remember to position the quick connects facing outward and level with the horizon or they will be a beach to connect and the tank will have to come out again for repositioning of the hoses.

Good luck..........
