1150 windshield

Post by horowm »

Hi! I have the original 1150 windshield and I get blasted right at helmet level. Has anyone tried rotating the windshield up for better protection? I envision needing to drill two new holes. Or any other suggestions? (no response from the Rockster group)

There are many windscreens. And many threads on the subject of screens. I have not heard of the screen being adjusted in that way. I find the small BMW fly screen to be quieter but offering less body protection than large screens such as my previous MRA one. However the lower turbulence round my head and the lower ,less painful, noise levels from the smaller screen suits me.

Try riding without the windshield. I had a similar issue with the helmet buffeting and found that removing the shield was the best option and lowest cost option.

I've had 3 different windshields on the R and have been happiest with the smallest flyscreen. It keeps the bulk of the wind off of my chest, but no turbulence around my helmet.

If anyone is interested I have an MRA Vario screen that I would be happy to part with, it is in pretty good condition, with brackets and hardware.

Trade ?

I put the MRA Xcreen on my OEM tall touring windshield a few months ago and it made a world of difference...no more buffeting and 70+ feels like 50.

The chest pressure is too much without a screen. As said above my good compromise was to use a small BMW flyscreen. But try /borrow a bike if you can. Everyone is different. 8-[

Look on the Ztechnic website for Z2330 and Z2331. This is not the fly screen but a very good short/sport screen made by Ztechnic for the Rr and sold for a time by BMW as theirs. It's a favorite of many riding the bike.

Ztechnic no longer lists them on the web site.

They do. I'm not getting a link to transfer to here, but enter Ztechnic Z2330 in google, select the Ztechnic site which lists Z2330 and you'll be there. They list clear and dark lexan screens. Used to be called "Sport", now "Short".

Mine is the original sport screen as in the BMW brochure.
See

I note it is called the Speedster screen here -a simpler shape than the Zedtechnic one.
Easy to fit with one bolt per side into the threaded hole underneath the top yoke and no fork stanchion clamps.
I found several on e bay before I bought mine.
The only issue with installation was that I tried to use a new bolt that was too long to go in straight and partly cross threaded the yoke. When sorted, I used a shorter bolt with no problem.
I'm not sure that you could fit a spacer underneath the top mounts only - the screen is fitted with 'well nuts' of the correct length as standard.

I have heard of adding stainless steel washers to the upper mounts to "shim" the windshield out and thus deflecting the wind higher.
