Electrical Issues

Post by jwagreen »

I have a 2002 R1150 R with 81378 miles. I have been riding it back and forth to work 132 miles round trip since March with no issues. I have previously replaced the hall effect sensor in 2015 at 74510. This morning I backed out of the drive and turned the ignition key to on and nothing happened? No power no lights. I checked the kill switch and it was off. I put the bike on the center stand turned the key on with the side stand up and nothing happens. no lights no power. I moved the handle bars back and forth to see if a loose wire and could not get any power. The clock is still working so I was wondering if could be the kill switch or the ignition switch or neither. It seems strange the the clock works but no other power is working? I get 12 volts from the power adapter plug. Thanks in advance to any advice offered.
I have the haynes manual but cannot find the wiring diagram for the kill switch.

Quite possibly a broken wire in the loom to the ignition switch. Even if you've cut the cable ties, they still go (mine went after approx 90,000 miles - exactly where the 'bend' would have been with the cable tie).

that's the first place I'd look.

Thanks for the tip. I peeled back everything in the loom and wiggled wires and i had lights. the red wire pulled out of the ignition housing in the key switch. i peeled back bird shi! from set screw on ignition housing but do not have a tool to remove set screw. anyone ever remove ignition electrical switch without taking the yoke off of the bike?
