Matching Up BMW Silver Paint

Hey All,
Finished the constuction phase of the rack system and grab/sissy bar set up on my black 2002 R. Never did get any information on my posted question regarding welding current and my R's electronics. Local dealer was of even less help, so I ended up fabricating the bar on a mock up of rear bike dimensions and welding it up and then transfering it onto the bike. It actually worked out pretty well, and no burns on my seat(LOL). The reason for my new post is I will be painting the rack portion of my set-up silver to match the painted silver trim on my bike. I was hoping to get some recommendations for silver paint that would closley match the BMW trim silver. The rack portion is 5/8x1 1/2" t-6 aluminum bar stock which I can prime and use just about any type of paint recommended. The bar set-up is 5/8 steel and will be a gloss black like my R. Any help is appreciated.

Guess no one knew the answer to your last question. Glad you didn't let that keep you from asking another one. As to your latest question, I'm going to guess here that you should probably go buy the paint from a BMW dealer. Once it's applied, you can use a regular spray-on clearcoat for finish. I tried matching the silver paint once and did not have an easy time finding a good match...finally broke down and bought paint from the dealer.

I was on a similar quest and went to a couple of auto parts places that could mix a spray can to match the code, but the cost was about the same as buying from the dealer.

i found a real good match at an auto parts store for touchup paint. of course that's a pretty small bottle and would probably do you no good, but let me know if you are interested in the color and brand and i will dig it out.

i'll try to dig it out this weekend. it's in one of my cycle bins in my basement. it was an almost exact match with the same satiny sheen as the bmw aluminum color.

You might want to also check out BMW automobile paints. I had a givi winscreen painted to match my '02 roadster (piedmont red metallic) and it turns out the one of the BMW auto paints was the exact same color.

There is an exact match that I have used on my GS. Off the top of my head it is Duplicolor GM340 which you can get at most autoparts stores as well as Walmart. I will go out to the garage in the morning to confirm.

Dupli-Color DSGM340 silver metallic. Available at Walmart and Advance Auto, probably a bunch of other places as well.

i can't find what i used but it was an auto touch up paint. i seem to remember brushwood satin metallic, but each brand probably has a different name. luckily they are only a couple bucks to experiment. if i ever find it i will make sure to post.
