I’ve been busy helping Bill Haycock and a couple other guys set up a Bulletin Board forum for our BMWMOGA club here in Georgia. Funny. But on Thursday of last week I made the decision to “skip†school and take a ride. It turned out to be sunny and in the high 50s most of the day. I didn’t have any particular place to go or see, I just wanted to take off and take a few pictures of some of the scenery on a nice day.
I got out on I-575 to head north for the hills. These hills…Off in the distance…The Blue Ridge Mountains.

I got up to Pickens county and got off on a county road near Tate Georgia. Lots of marble quarried in this area. I think I saw a sign that said the marble capital of Georgia.

I had to stop in for a quick visit to the famous Tate House. http://ngeorgia.com/history/tate.html

I headed east from there to ride some of the north GA twisties. There seemed to be quite a bit of gravel scattered here and there, but no traffic to speak of so I pretty well had it all to myself.

No sooner had I gotten started on that nice road I spied a sigh for the old Amicalola Baptist church that was founded in 1879. I just can’t resist stopping for a look at an old church. These old church buildings dot the mountainous landscape of north Georgia and usually are situated off the beaten path. If you get off the main road a ride a ways you can find them.

Riding on farther I discovered another one. This one, Sweetwater Baptist Church was founded in 1870. These buildings are still maintained and used every Sunday.

I had a PTA meeting I had to attend in the early evening and Sparky and I had an after PTA dinner date, so I didn’t stop for any BBQ on this ride.
I ended up riding on north on 129 to Blairsville, GA and back down the slab for home to rest up before my meeting. These are the kind of days I cherish. No rush. Just easy riding, wherever the road takes me.
