Okay, its between Tank Bag and rear bag (Motech)

Post by dwayne »

I got some good feedback on the tank bag, but anyone try the rear bag?

Tank bag vs. rear case.

Post by Xray28 »

Only one objection to rear case. Makes it harder to swing your leg over the back end of the bike. Ballerenas, gymnasts, and advanced martial artists notwithstanding I find the swing over easier than the stand back and kick across necessitated by loading up the top of the back end of the bike.

It can be tough swinging your leg up and over, but I got used to finding a new method when I had my bike loaded up for a trip.

The tail bag looks nice... I opted for a hard GIVI top case. I can leave it locked on the bike and park, not having to worry 'bout someone swiping my stuff (I ditched all my soft cases/bags long ago)

I think FINALLY I have made a decision; I think it will be the tank bag. There are just so many options I didn't know what to do, but the tank bag keeps wining, and I eventually plan to get the BMW panniers for my long distance rides; if they ever happen that is.

Tank bags are truly convenient little gems that I've only recently discovered. There are now many small tankbags on the market and those are the ones that got my attention. I never liked the bulky look of a fully stuffed tankbag riding between someone's arms and chest.

I've seen the SW-Motech mount in person and it's a pretty slick deal. I too worried about scratches on the tank but the magnet mount bags simply hug the tank and do not slide around at all. Plus you get a map window! Those can be almost unusably small on bags like my Cortech Super Mini, but I still love mine when travelling.

I think you'll like the tankbag, especially if you get the system cases later.

I tried various Magnetic tank bags, but because of the shape of the tank, none of them felt very secure (to me).

And the SW Motech bags do not touch the tank anywhere... great if you are concerned about scratches.
