Dang that there is something about the color black on a BMW motocycle!!! That dark silver does nothing for me. Superfical stuff I know but esp after my gaff with the oil cooler I hardly feel competent to comment on much else...
Is ist my imagination or is that left side bag full size??? No more lowering kit for the can??? Surely something we can all agree is a plus!!

YES! And...left side bag full size??? No more lowering kit for the can??? Surely something we can all agree is a plus!!
lighter weight
more HP
less vibration
maintenance free battery
and a lifetime supply of BMW factory air.
Downside...
no windshields available (just the tiny one)
ugly brake fluid reservoir
oil cooler in lousy location (debatable)
all the fancy brake and traction control crap(we can get it without it right?)
no beak(we CAN get along with only sideburns)

The new R1200R is like a bird..................cheap, cheap, cheap............the light weight / performance we can get from Japan.
Sorry folks but I am dissapointed. BMW (pronounced BeeEmmTroubleyou) are wrong with that oil coller, they are wrong with the pillion seat, they are worng with the instruments and switch gear.
As for two full size cases - we had that years ago with the R100R (I had one - good bike) and all the bikes that went before. Nothing clever in that - it is just BMWs choice as to weather they give us two full cases.
Yes, time do move on and of course BMtroubleyou are after more customers but they missed it with this.
Of course we want more with each new upgrade but they have missed the boat....................they assume we have short memories?? When the 'new' 4 valve 1100 twins came out in '93/94 the GS / R versions were developing 85bhp at the rear wheel (and they were only quoting 80!). Of course over the last 10 years or so emmissions have got tighter and therefore we have to have an increase in cubic capacity every couple of years. The latest 1200s are still only making 85bhp at the rear wheel (emmissions, folks). They try to distract us with other 'stuff' - but do we need it?? I like ABS and I like the modern handling with telelever. A lot of the other 'stuff' is just distracting.
The little extra performace and cheapness I could get elesewhere.
One thing I do know for sure is that, in time, me and anyone else similar to me will be cast aside and the new bike will be embraced by all.............but that is due to modern marketing and not the product. We are all being sold to.
Another thing I know.................I love this forum...........I get to vent my spleen!
