Power Accessory socket.

Did the 2004 Rock come standard with one power socket? And where is the best place to mount a second socket (hidden) to power a gps, radio, etc?

I have a power socket on the left side of the engine.

Added a second socket up front at the bottom of the display panel...

Used the screw that holds the display panel frame in place as the anchor point.

I talked at length with one of the techs at Bob's BMW (Steve) before bringing my bike in to do the install. Steve designed/installed it for me. I wanted something that wouldn't look embarassing.

Yup. It was pricey (just under $300), but I'm happy with it and have no worries about how durable it will be.

Was the socket on the left side there during the time of purchase? The reason I ask is that my bike was suppose to come to me with the power socket, and according to the folks staffing the BMW web site, it is on the bike (I'll ask the service folks at my 6K) but all I can find is the open area above the peg with a blank cap.

That is a nice set-up on your bike.................

I discovered I had that too.

Make sure you get the specific part, not the "Retro-fit-kit" for the plug - they ARE different. The standard one plugs straight into the loom and there should be a socket just behind that plastic cover to fit it.

I can't seem to locate the "socket just behind the cover to fit it." Can any one make a suggestion?

Welcome.

Take the plastic cover off (one small hex-screw at the rear end, then the plastic cover will pull off). The "flying-end" of the loom will be tucked away behind the startermotor. It might feel weird pulling at the cables, but if you're reasonably gentle you won't do any damage. the flying-end with the small socket on it should pull out, it's not long though, just long enough to reach the power socket when you've fitted it on.

Yes. That's how you conveniently recharge the battery with the battery tender. You can either get the BMW-branded Battery Tender that comes with the power socket plug, or you can get a regular Battery Tender (which is the same damn thing without the Roundel Tax) and buy a BMW power socket plug adapter.

I've been looking around to find an adapter, but there sure are a lot of different types. I've got this CTEK charger:

As shown there is a cigarette plug available, which I could use together with this:

I was, however, hoping to find an adapter that fits directly between my charger and the power outlet mounted on the bike. Anyone seen this?

You could wire this directly onto your charger leads:

But be careful that you match the charger to the battery. BMW's use different chargers for lead-acid batteries, and their gel-cell unit.

Since finding an adapter that would fit directly between my charger and the power adapter proved difficult, I bought an adapter from a local dealer (similar to the ones Powerlet make).
And now it works like a charm
