After the Vermont rally, I felt Maine calling me.
This pic was taken on Maine Route 27 just this side of the Canadian border.
What a wonderful place to ride motorcycles. No traffic. Zip. None. - Lee

FACT EDIT: I'm wrong, it was Maine Hwy 17 just south of Qquossoc.

This shot was from the ferry between Port Kent, NY and Burlington, VT.
I had just finished a day of great riding in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.

I ended up in the rally area a day ahead of time, so I holed up
at the Black Bear Inn about 20 miles east of the rally site.
Much better than camping an extra day and working the beer tent.

This was taken at the Merchant Marine Academy in Castine, Maine.
Nearby Dennett's Wharf Restaurant serves some mighty fine fish-n-chips.

...just kidding...it looks more like an RT..it must be great for touring.

Oh it has the heart of a Roadster, but it was built as a replacement for my R100RT because I did not like the R1150RT or the R1200RT. It's role is LD touring with emphasis on capability for unimproved roads. Now that I have worn the Michelin Pilot Road tires out I have a set of dual sport treaded Dunlop D616's to put on it. The D616's were designed specifically for the Buell Ulysses and are sized the same as the tires on this bike (120/70x17 and 180/55x17). Along with the GS suspension, that completes its unimproved road credentials.

Lee - nice pictures. I like the bike. One thing I have found fasinating for years is the extent BMW riders can make their bike their own personal machine, different from anyone else's.

The Hannigan (or Hannigan clone) reminds me of the old days when you saw a lot of them at rallies. Always on the bikes of the high mileage guys!

Thanks for the photos Lee. Your bike looks like a great touring machine. And thanks for the info on the Dunlops. Nice to know their dual sport tires will work on the R.

Note the size of the rear. On a Roadster, you will have to upsize the rear wheel to 5.5 inches. I used a wheel from an R1100S. The Rockster already has the right width rear wheel. The front is the same on both bikes.

It's not a clone. Jerry Heil bought the original molds from Hannigan and has since added to them. The inner half of the mold is model specific to conform to the gas tank. I have also admired the Hannigan for nearly 30 years and have found like you that they end up on high mileage bikes. After this little 4,000 mile trip, I understand why. They just work!

Thanks for taking the time to share. I've only seen a couple of the Hannigan fairings in person and they always stand out to me. They're big, hard not to notice.

So is that Jet-Hot coating on your headers? How is it holding up?

It is the ceramic coating from Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA. It is holding up quite well. You can hardly get it dirty when you try.
