Re: Charging a 2nd battery while Riding?
I like your idea of putting the battery where the canister was located and the battery isolator is something I will check out. Do you know if the second battery could be a deep cycle battery where it could be drained while the bike is not running? Staying in campgrounds that have electricity will be...

Charging a 2nd battery while Riding?
Has anybody ever hooked up a second battery that could be trickle charged by the bike alternator while Riding? I am going camping and need a deep cycle 12V battery in the tent to run a CPAP device. The CPAP will drain the battery while I'm sleeping. My hope is to recharge the battery while Riding th...

Re: Another R1150R that stopped running. Help!
 Well, I feel more than a little stupid. I siphoned all 4.5 gallons of gas out of the tank and pulled the fuel pump assembly. Alas, one of the new fuel injector clamps I installed wasn't tightened sufficiently and the hose had come off. In hind sight, when I checked the fuel inje...

Re: Another R1150R that stopped running. Help!
I checked the fuel injectors. There is a very fine pulsing mist on both sides.
This is crazy. I have gas, I have spark.

Re: Another R1150R that stopped running. Help!
The tank was full. With finger pressure, I was able to compress the lines above the QD's about 1/3. I felt no change in pressure/squishiness when I tried to start it. I haven't pulled an injector yet.
Thanks for the help.

I replaced the BMW crimp clamps with screw/nut fuel injector clamps.

Re: Fuel Pump Assembly problem
I appreciate your advice on the external filter. I had seen your directions and printed them out a while ago. I even found a local supplier with a foot of Gates gas submersible line(supposedly exceeds the R10 specifications). Then, because of a crisis in self-confidence, I brain farted and decided t...

Another R1150R that stopped running. Help!
My 04 R1150R quit running. I have gone almost 10,000 miles with no problems until now. I just replaced the fuel filter and left it stock (inside the tank). At the same time, I switched to a y pipe and Remus Genesis exhaust. The bike ran better than ever for about 15 miles after making the changes an...

Re: theoretical sale.
I bought my 04 R1150R in August of 2010 in San Francisco. I paid $5500. It had 16K miles, ABS, side cases, Givi top case, sport shield, stock exhaust, but the seller had a Y pipe and Remus Genesis exhaust that he included. The tires had about half the tread left. Mechanically excellent, but needed n...

Re: Fuel Pump Assembly problem
Thanks for the advice. I called the BMW dealer and they said I would need to find somebody to weld on a new bolt. Your idea sounds a lot less expensive and I could do it myself. In the meantime, I used some gas friendly permatex around the plate, and torqued the remaining bolts to specs. No leaks an...

Fuel Pump Assembly problem
While I was in the process of replacing my internal fuel filter, one of the 5 bolts that holds the fuel pump/filter assembly to the tank snapped off. Is this a DIY fix or something that will require BMW and lots of money? I'm hoping that the remaining part of the bolt can be pushed back in to the ta...

Re: Bike just quit running.
I assume the kickstand is up when you are trying to start it. If so, check the bolt attaching the kickstand to the frame. Mine came loose causing the sensor switch to come out of position. It wouldn't start until I reattached it. If the tank has been on it's side, then the bike wont start until you ...

Re: My Cross Country Ride Last June
Boxer and Kristi, Thanks for your advice. 400 miles a day is impressive and more than I hope to travel. However, there will be delays along the way which will probably require me to pick up the pace later in the trip. I am a fan of Eureka tents, but, back in the day, I spent more nights than I care ...

Re: My Cross Country Ride Last June
Thanks for sharing the slide show. It made my day. I am planning a 5000 mile solo trip this June/July that will take me from SF to Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, north towards Mt. Rushmore, West through Yellowstone, North to Glacier and Jasper, then South to Victoria, Crater Lake, Mt Lassen, the Califo...

Re: Can a Twinmax be used on the R1150R?
Well, I did it. I was apprehensive after the Clymer manual said the TB syncronization on the R1150R needed to be done at the dealership, but I followed your instructions exactly and it turned out to be a pretty simple procedure. I needed to adjust the idle screw and the throttle cable on both sides ...

Re: Can a Twinmax be used on the R1150R?
Thank you Eduardo and Boxermania. When building something, I always measure twice and cut once. When working on this bike, I read, I ask, I read again. I ask again. With your help, I am finally ready to jump in and give it a try. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow. By the way, I am the third o...

Can a Twinmax be used on the R1150R?
I bought a Twinmax, but after reading the directions, I still wasn't sure where it attached on my 2004 R1150R. I turned to chapter 3 in my Clymer manual and looked up Throttle Body Syncronization. After reading the manual and looking at the pictures, it all made sense. HOWEVER, the instructions were...

I got a new Twinmax for $89 at California Sport touring (http://www.casporttouring.com/). I went to the store so I didn't pay shipping.

Re: Oil Change
Thanks for the responses. I have heard that new synthetic oils can go far greater distances, however the filters still need to be changed more frequently. My bike is out of warranty and is rarely ridden less than 40 miles per Ride. Therefore, I will save some money, befriend Al Gore by using less oi...

Oil Change
My Clymer manual says the engine oil and filter should be replaced every 6,000 miles. I have never driven any vehicle that far between oil changes. I am running synthetic Redline 20-50W. Any advice on how often I should be changing oil and filter?
