Re: New battery drains with heated grips on high
For another data point, on my '04 I can run the heated grips and my aux lights for my short 10mi commute and have no issues starting the bike later. My alt light will occasionally stay on when I first start the bike until I give it a little gas and then I don't see it again. Best of luck in tracking...

After nearly 14 years of service, you should replace the rubber lines no matter what. They may look fine, but they are probably not fully up to the task any longer.

Yes, even with ear plugs in I find that whining very annoying. People around me are probably wondering what's wrong with my bike...gregor wrote: That whining sound holding the bike at the traffic lights is wearing though.

Re: Is it time for new shocks?
I think it was around $1300.00 for the Wilbers I chose. I did the install myself. It was pretty straight forward. Seems like their was one little trick to make it easy but I don't remember what it was. If I remember, I will post. Ted at Beemershop was a huge help! Thanks for the info. Beemershop is...

Re: Is it time for new shocks?
What have you paid for your new shocks? And is this a DIY replacement or best to leave it to a shop? At 43k miles, my bike is definitely wallowing in the corners and I don't enjoy that feeling. I'm trying to decide if it's worth spending the $ on shocks, or just putting it towards some more modern m...

Re: Gas mileage sucks
My bike is basically stock and I average a consistent 39mpg while commuting (about 50/50 hwy/local), with my light coming on around 150.

Re: Adding A Screen
On your buffeting, I found that on my weestrom the draft from the mirrors was where the headslapping side to side wind was coming from. $15 on Amazon and quick addition of mirror extenders ended the buffeting!. They're out another 2" to the side now and what comes off of them now glances the s...

Re: Adding A Screen
Saving my ears is more important than the bike's looks, so if you or someone wants to swap a tall touring screen (hopefully that uses the sport brackets) in new condition, well, PM me. Are you wearing ear plugs? That will make a bigger difference than any screen. Actually, I get the quietest, clean...

Re: windscreen 1150r
Is the fly screen different than the sport shield? I have the touring and sport. I find the touring is unbearable in terms of bueffeting, the sport is better, though I can't help thinking something just a bit smaller would be just right... You find the "Touring" shield buffets too much? H...

Yes, they use the same mounts. I have both and can mount either using the same brackets.peels wrote: can a much taller touring screen be mounted directly to those curvy stock mounts?

I was able to access mine with a regular allen key. Make a very small turn, then pull out the key and reinsert, turn again, etc... It's a pain, but it is doable.

Re: Givi A240?
Bought it. Tried it. Doesn't work :( The base is a little too narrow, and mounting on the headlight directly results in instability of the light. Probably could be made to work with some fabrication skills, but I don't have those. I am looking for a BMW Sport shield with mounts if anyone has one the...

Re: even the little things.
My repair manual agrees that the pistons should be cleaned before attempting to push them back in. However, if you were pushing by hand you probably didn't get them in very far anyway. It also suggests that for increased leverage you can place the old pads back in place, then use a screwdriver or ot...

Re: even the little things.
Did you open the brake MC to allow the fluid to get pushed back? If not, there may be too much pressure, which would keep you from pushing the pistons back any further. Just be careful that brake fluid doesn't get on your paint!

Re: short commute
If you're worried about the battery, just plug in on a tender when you get home. I usually do that as I don't ride every day to work, typically alternating between the moto-bike and pedal-bike as mentioned by others.
