Re: Hitting the Rev Limiter?

I wouldn't regularly hit the rev. limiter. Not because it causes damage, it just does not feel good. Occasionally running the bike up to high rpm at full throttle, over 6000, to 7000, is good. It has the same good effect as running against the limiter without the strange rough running feeling.

Most horns, specially dual or big horns, draw more amps than what you want to run through handlebar pushbutton switches.

Try to screw the bolt in without the muffler. When there are no extra pieces around it is easier to find the right position to get the bolt lined up threaded in. If it goes, turn it in and out a few times, and you'll know if the thread is OK or not.

Towerworker, The next one (#3) could be your last chance of riding your bike. I am at the same age as you. I always fighting my temptation of go riding. "In Northern Japan, we stop riding on 15th of November or first snow..." We are not getting any younger and it is harder for the body to...

Unless you are a bit "height challenged" for two-up with gear riding you can't beat the GS.

I use the Slime air pump, that is compact, comes with different connections but not with the BMW type, and a nice pouch that holds everything. Many sources, here is one: http://www.amazon.com/Slime-40001-Power-Sport-Inflator/dp/B000ET9SB4/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1201391947&...

I work at a BMW dealer. About two years ago my '02 R1150R had the same kind of clutch spline failure, at 29.000 miles, way too early for normal wear. Between the shop technicians, myself, and kind of quietly the BMWNA area tech rep. we agreed that just replacing clutch and shaft is not a long term s...

IMHO Checking the oil level in the transmission or rear drive is not needed at all. That oil does not get consumed, burned, or goes anywhere but to the outside if leaking. If it was filled with the correct amount it is OK. If you don't see it on the outside, it is on the inside.

I had a set of Rockster shocks on my R1150R. Installing is the same as stock. They do not lower the bike at all. The front is a hair shorter than stock R1150R and the rear is a fraction taller. All it does is to tilt the bike at a more downward angle, giving faster steering. I felt the damping a bit...

In Maryland and many other States, if it is your first ticket in a long time and go to court, you may get "probation before judgment". It means that if for a certain time, mostly one year, you do not get another ticket, this one is forgiven. If you get another one, you pay and get points f...

The bike in the pictures with painted full size city bags, solo Russell seat, low muffler, was my bike. It burned down in a garage/workshop fire. Some things, like full size bags with Atlanta Blue city and standard lids, muffler lowering kit, and other stuff were not on the bike in the fire and will...

None of the above. On my dear departed '02 R1150R I rode 70K miles on Metzeler ME880 and was very happy with them.

Ok... thanks to all the positive feedback I am ready to order, but it seems that there are two flavors for the ME 880: a VB (belted? and a little cheaper) and a VR (radial? and insignificantly more expensive--102 vs 108). My gut tells me the VR since I assume radial is better than belted--if I am r...

I used the ME880 regularly on my R1100RT until I sold it with 170K miles, and it was the only tires I used on my R1150R until the bike burned down in a garage fire, with 70K miles. Rear mileage was between 8 and 12K, front between 12 and 18K. Handling and traction was excellent. On my R1100RT I did ...

There is no better or worse. Two years ago I sold my '99 R1100RT with 170K miles and with advancing age and after some knee surgery I wanted something lighter. I got a '02 R1150R and made it into what I called a RT-lite. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m139/Mihalka/R1150Rt-lite/R1150R-jpeg100post...

When I had my R1150R I had the opportunity of buying a almost new set of Rockster shocks. When the bike had about 40K miles I swapped the shocks. The front is a hair shorter than the R1150R shock and the rear a bit taller, giving slightly faster steering. They were OK, but no Ohlins.

I used the Autolite 3923 in my '99 R1100RT for about 170K miles and in the '02 R1150R for 70K miles. I found they improve idle and less or no surging compared to the stock plugs. I gapped them new at 0.040 which is the max. BMW allows. I replaced them at about every 20K. Gap did not vary much and th...
