Re: First impressions and path forward...

A year ago I was in your shoes. I bought an '04 R sight unseen on the advice of a bmw fanatic (ownes 3 and does 15-20k a year). So I located one in Ct and sent my mechanic up there to check it and put it in his truck. Well the first time on it I said to myself What the F... thing is this. Im almost ...

Re: good first bike? NO !

Ok your 20 and you have some cash, and brains since you dont want a 200 HP 400 lb Ninja. The R is not a beginner bike for many reasons. It has an 1150cc engine, in England you would need many years of experience to ride a bike with this much power for good reason. You are young and have little ridin...

Re: Initial Report:Conti Road Attacks

Well my rear Conti got drilled by a sea shell and I had it plugged but it didnt hold air. Lost 11 lbs in 5 days. I had a honda hawk GT650 with 10 year old tires and no problems. My Heart Attack had 100 miles on it, and was a bit over a month old. Are some brands more likely to get punctured or is it...

Re: Boxer smooth as silk (as much as a lumpy twin can be)

I got stuck in traffic on my little towns main street, and I got pissed off. Well then the R started getting pissed off and the engine started clicking, like the oil was low, it wasnt. I think it was getting hot, can that cause the clicking, or coils? Well I took a detour around the New Delhi traffi...

Re: somebody clarify tire replacements for the bike!

To reply to the price question on the Conti Heart Attacks. I got them in April for $235 shipped. As the $ has declined the price may have increased. Z in front, plain in rear, and ask them where they were made. Dont buy them if they say Korea since they are DEFINATELY made in Germany as well. The on...

Re: somebody clarify tire replacements for the bike!

Will second the Road Attack. Makes the bike feel very light in the turns, easy roll in
and easy roll out. German made. Stock on the R1200R. Z fitment front and
regular rear. SW MOTO shipped $235.

I'm 6'1" tall and the sargent seat was returned since when I came to a stop it felt like there was a giant wedge between my legs with my feet on the ground. The BMW comfort seat gives you nearly 3" up and a flat surface so your nuts are not pressed into the tank. Ive been there and it make...

Technical Advice Regarding Front Rotor Attachment

I took a ride down to a local beach on Sat just to go for a ride. I got into the parking lot and noticed a creaking sound comming from the front wheel as it went around, only in a tight left turn at walking speed. Lasts for a half second at most, and is high pitched. So I got off got the gear off and...

Re: Help guys!

BMW wheels are soft, so they get bent easily, but the good news is that they can get bent back easily. Unlike Ducati wheels some of which are brittle. http://www.framestraightsystem.com/ These guys just straightened out my front wheel and it looks perfect. You will need to wait and the bill includin...

Re: Excessive Heat From Rt. Side of Cat.

Thanks Big Cheese and Mat: I will increase the presure to 36/39, the conti specs, and think about the valves and throttle balance soon. I heard today that a new BMW steelership is opening up In Mineola NY here on Long Island. That would be 15 minutes away, and I hope that they hire some good wrenchs...

Re: Tire advice

Well after puttin the heart attacks on my R and riding for an hour yesterday I will tell you that these are not ordinary tires. First they seem like they are bigger or wider than the dunlops they replaced. When my front wheel was bent I would put it on the center stand and spin the wheel and I could...

Re: Conti Road Attack; which dircection do your treads go?

Hi Daryl: Well first of all you have the wrong front tire fitment for the Conti's, as I see a "C" on it. 'Z' is the correct tire, sorry. Florian Sollich at the factory states: Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile -----Original Message----- From: bluelight5@verizon.net Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2008 0...

Re: Excessive Heat From Rt. Side of Cat.

Thanks to all for your thoughtful replys. I rode the bike today after 7 months off. Off time was due mostly cold here on Long Island and getting my front wheel back from Frame Straight in Tennessee (6 weeks round trip + 200 $), but it came out good! Next I had to wait 2 weeks for my friend Sonny Def...

Excessive Heat From Rt. Side of Cat.

My 04 R burns my right leg just above my medial malleolus (distal part of the tibia at ankle). I wear work style boots which arent high enough to cover this area. I wind up trying to put my foot as far out on the peg to get it away from the cat. Not really so safe though. Is this normal for the R or...

Re: Tire Recommendations Welcomed

If you are interested in the Conti RA, this may be helpful to you. You want the Z in front not the C as previously posted here. Dear Ray, The different letters means different specification for different bikes, where tests has shown us that the regular tyre will not work properly. More or less is ne...

Bought the bike on the rec of a BMW fanatic. Never rode one or sat on one. Yes dumb. Now the first time on it (I'm 6'1") I felt like a jockey on a horse and I cant tell you how uncomfortable it was. My next mistake was getting a Sargent seat. Problem with it was the piping on the squared top pr...

Re: Road Attack Fitment

Thanks Mike for your thoughts. I have recieved my order from SW Moto. Fast Service! The 'C' front is made in Korea, while the plain back is German made. If the Z is from Germany, I will exchange it for that. My front wheel has been down in Tenesee, at Frame Straight for the past 3 weeks getting a sm...
