But carbon buildup is a completely different thing, right? That's typically from all the extra oil that gets burned during the long break-in period that we have to endure on these machines. Add to that fairly short trips that don't heat the engine well, and that's where the carbon build-ups start. O...

Re: Techron

There's so much detergent in fuel these days that unless the bike
sat for a long time with unstabilized fuel in it, I can't imagine that
you'd need to run even more detergent. Particularly if the bike is
ridden on a regular basis, I'd say save your money.

Re: Dimensions

They are small!!! (although i think they will hold a laptop) I have them and I wished I had purchased the standard size, Mine will be up "for sale" when I purchase the standard size. Just my opinion, Den Den, did you know you can buy just the lids for the system cases? I really like the c...

You never know. I used to participate on a board that was mostly for the Suzuki Bandits, Katanas, and DR350 dirt bikes. Their name is Maximum-Suzuki, and they did get in trouble when they had shirts and other items made up using the "Suzuki" name, even though it was tied with "Maximu...

I know this may upset some people, but so far to date, and i have a lot of riding gear, the harley davison FXRG jacket and pants are by far the best cold weather gear i have. And it has very suttle harley logo, no big harley logo. I bought it on sale for $800.00 for both pieces. I was looking at va...

Re: Riding in cold weather

I'm a newbie and need some cold weather gear help. I don't get cold easy and even though I live in Chicago I'm still riding in 30-40 F weather. My Joe Rocket jacket leaves my neck exposed. This is my weakest link and I'm looking for something to cover it up. Check this out: http://www.exigentbikeco...

Re: trail

Around here, U Haul has a bunch of options for not much money, and I believe you can do a one way rental, too. We rented a UHaul trailer that was aluminum, with a ramp, and 3-foot high side walls. The rails were big, and made the tie-down a cinch. It was a fairly cheap rental for in-town ($25 for 2...

when I went to the dealer for the biannual tuneup the dealer said that whenever they do service they check the vin number to see if there are any applicable recalls. I'm assuming that includes fuel line recalls. By the way, I also live in San Francisco so I do a heavy bit of hill riding and stop an...

I have two issues riding in cold weather. 1. My visor fogs up if I get stuck in stop and go traffic. I installed a nose guard in my helmet and treated my visor with anti-fog stuff. They both helped but I am still having a problem with this. 2. I get a runny nose when temps are in the 30's or colder...

Although not a trivial task, try a direct connection to the battery. If the charger works fine, there may be corrosion or a loose connection that has developed over the riding season that is making the charger balk when connected to the power socket (but not enough to discourage flow from your high-...

The Loaner

BlueBeak was in for the 600-mile service over the weekend, so I had a loaner F650GS in SCREAMING Yellow to putter around on. Not sure what year it was, but it had 2400 miles on it when it was my turn to take it for a spin. It's 20 miles home, then another 20 back, and I did my usual backroad route, ...

The main reason I like the heated grips is that I can wear a thinner glove, which allows easier working of the controls (I can actually feel what I'm doing). Even with thick gloves, my hands always got cold. Over the weekend, it was under 40 degrees, (and snowing), and my hands were toasty warm. :D

I picked up a digital multimeter. I'm not a mechanic (but will do a little reading over the winter!) I know my battery will need a boost when I go to start it tomorrow (winter storage day...going to the dealer, 10 kms away). If I use the meter tonight on use the exterior battery terminals, I assume...

I had the right grip on my 2003 R1150R die, and the dealer replaced it under warranty. Note to everyone - now that it is getting cooler, check the operation of your heated grips before you get out of a chilly ride! 46 degrees(F) this morning - first time I used the "two dots" position on ...

Draw on the battery?

Just for the sake of completeness, what's the nominal draw off the battery with the key off for an unmodified RR? The dead-in-the-morning-battery blues are common amongst the improperly-installed-aftermarket-radio-amp crowd. 8) Just wondering if there's an improper draw that might start the same cyc...

Skip the Sportster, too

I owned a 2005 Sportster 1200R for exactly 5 weeks. Everything I read about it said how much of an improvement it was over the solid-mount Sportys. It was the most disappointing major purchase I have ever made. I don't ride hard, I enjoy an average pace ride, and commute to work. Thought I would giv...

This topic has come up before. I remember reading that the altenator on the bikes did not change when the they started using gel cells. People apparently routinely shell out $20,000(US) for Harley Road Kings, and their stablemates. That constitutes something approaching usery in my book, but Harley sure does sell a lot of them. And the 3-year roadside assistance booklet that came with my 2005 RR has Trip Interruption coverage as a f...

Since the bike is black and the fender is small, you could try a spray bomb of car paint instead of the more expensive BMW paint. However, prep work is 99% of a paint job, and boxermania is right on with the 220 wet/dry. If the scratches aren't terribly deep, you can use a combination of sanding and...

I want a small one (no not that) but not too small. Magnetic vs Straps? Suggestions? Thanks.
