Z Technik windscreen for R12R - anyone tried this one?

Interesting - could you make a measurement of the top of the shield to the top of the headlight? That would give a measurement of the shield height relative to other shields.

Its 18.5 inches.

Thanks. That's almost identical to the Cee-Bailey 18" screen. Which I'm still deciding if I like (was VERY windy today - so not a good day to decide..)

I can give some feedback on the 18" Cee-Bailey.

Took a ride to nowhere today (actually a dealer on the other side of the state.. about 150 mile round trip..) - went out via superslab, came back on backroads.

Superslab - works better than the 16" did for me. Moves the turbulence to just above my helmet. A bit less air on my helmet - which was expected. Not any more of a problem with truck wakes than the 16" - at least no more noticeable problem, and the 16" wasn't bad at all.

Backroads - quite pleasant. No bugs on the faceshield at all. Could run with the shield in the city position on both sides (vented - Schuberth C2) or with the shield cracked open 1/2-1" and no wibble/wobble of my head (turbulence causes the cracked open shield to move around independent of the helmet - but transferring the force to the helmet - causing a shaking of the helmet. With the 18" shield this isn't happening.)

So - facts - I'm 5'7" with a 27" inseam on a tall day. So figure your inseam and height and you'll have some guess if it will be tall enough for you. I had the 20" screen and found it too tall - probably be fine for someone 5'10"-6'.. It came up too high in my sight line - I was still looking over it mostly - but just. Not a problem with the 18" one.

BTW - clock turned over 5,000 miles today - troublefree miles. I'm loving this bike - shooting for a 12,000 mile year on it.

Thanks for the pics and the review. I should be picking up my new R1200R on Tuesday and am actually getting this screen on Monday and hoping to have the dealer install it when I pick up the bike.

What was a pain about the installation? Also if possible can you post some close up shots of how the shield mounts to the handlebars?

I did the install myself, so having someone else hold the bars while threading the bracket through the bars/cables would help as the instructions suggest. I also had to take my ram mount for the GPS off, since the bracket rests against the bars/clamps. Also, I suggest glueing (sp?) the gaskets to the bracket and backside of the metal plates - keeping the bracket/gasket/windshield/gasket/plate lined up and threading six screws/collars through was a chore. I'll take some more pics tomorrow of the bracket.

Unlike the BMW mounts/screens which is two torx screws and 45 seconds of effort, the Z Technik requires taking the screen off the bracket and removing the handlebars off the mounts to take the bracket off. Not something I would personally want to do more than twice a year, but I am not a patient person. I'm doing a couple hundred miles on Sunday, so I'll post more comments later.

So after several hundred miles yesterday I thought I'd share my experiences. After the day was over I determined the noise from the turbulance at the top of my head was more than I could deal with for long rides. This was compared to the screen on my wife's F800ST, which leaves the chest protected but the head in clean air. I decided to take the screen off, and during the process one of the bolt heads stripped in the most difficult place to reach, and I couldn't for the life of me get it off. (I have a friendly service mgr at the local dealer who's kind enough to fit me in later today). Also, the gaskets have ripped apart at several of the mounting holes. Overall, the quality of the hardware leaves a lot to be desired, so I wouldn't plan on repeated installs/removals. Since I've killed my chances of unloading the screen on this site, any donations to me for preventing any of you from misspending your $$ would be appreciated (Just kidding)

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the screen. It seemed to me like that was going to be the best overall option for this bike from a looks and functionality standpoint. I am sure if you called National Cycle/Ztechnik they'd probably replace the hardware for you.

Also--how tall are you?
