oil cap .......?

good morning all, and thank you for all of your input
i was just wondering if anybody makes an oil cap with an temperature gage
integrated ,so you could look at your left cylinder in warm weather and find out how hot your running,it would seem a good idea to me

I don't know about an oil cap temp gauge...haven't seen one. I bookmarked this link though and hopefully will be doing this mod in the next couple months: http://home.mindspring.com/~jabrooks/tech/oil_temp.htm Haven't decided whether to go digital though or the clock replacement route...

what i mean would be unscrew your filler cap (oil)
and replace it with a temperature gauge
end of story, analogue that is
a thermometer the size of our filler plugs
very simple ,i cant beleive it's nor accessible allready

Should you go ahead and make one, you'll find out why one does not already exist. That filler hole plug only plugs a convenient hole for adding engine oil. The oil is actually in the engine, the oil coolers, and the sump, all of which are separated from that filler opening by a lot of engine stuff.

You get an 'E' for effort and an 'I" for imagination. But whatever you do, keep those imaginative thoughts flowing. Didn't Galileo try thousands of compounds before he made the light bulb work?

Good idea, but what would you expect to read. The temperature will not be reprersentative of the engine or the oil since is not in contact with either, the only thing you will see is the temperature of the air in the valve cover............and may I ask, how can this be of any help to you?

If you really want to check the oil temp, which BTW, is not a bad idea. Do a search on Cyclerob's installation of his temperature gauge. That is one of the cleanest installations that I have ever seen, and is not too expensive.

If you can't find it, PM him, I'm sure he will oblige.
