Fuel Leak - Are these the right parts?
I have an 04 R1150R with 10000 miles. I was away for last 5 weeks, came back and about 2 miles from home saw fuel on the right hand side. Fuel was leaking on the exhaust pipe. Lots of smoke - no fire. Immediately parked and let the fuel dry. I should have taken a pic, but too late for that now. Afte...

Soft Luggage mechanics
I have been trying to find out that if I buy Nelson Riggs side bags (either CL-855 or CL-905) or the RKA bags (either 33L or 50L), will I have to buy some mounts to keep them away from the rear wheel? I used have a Suzuki Savage SV650 and I had to buy a mount that keeps the bags away from the wheel ...

Haven't ridden my bike in 2 years - now what?
In June 2008, I got into an accident and was grounded by my wife. At that point of time, I put Stabil in the gas tank, filled it up and left it in the garage. Now it is 26 months later and I would like to bring the bike into running condition. It is a 2004 R1150R ABS with just 6000 miles. It has not...

Re: Please post your best photo of you and your bike.
Those are pretty good pictures for a cell phone camera, and it looks like a nice commute. Technology keeps getting better and better - My first digital camera in 1999 was 1.3 megapixels, the cellphone has the same quality now. Upstate NY is pretty beautiful along the country roads. Only gripe is th...

Here is a pic of my morning commute today. This is the Old Seneca Turnpike between Marcellus and Mottville in central NY near Syracuse.

Re: New R1150R rider with severe lower back pain
While it was raining and all during the early part of the week, I did a lot of things to stretch the lower back - hamstring, pelvic tilts, and marches while sitting on a ball and what not. I rode the bike to work yesterday and today without much of pain. I guess this will be part of everyday routine.

Re: New R1150R rider with sever lower back pain
If you suffer from ‘severe’ back pain, some medical attention may be needed for an underlying problem. An alternative seat may not be the answer until this is sorted. :( I do not think that I suffer from back pain. I get this pain after (not during) riding the bike. Meanwhile check out...

New R1150R rider with severe lower back pain
I recently (~400 miles, 3 weeks ago) got the bike :-) I commute about 25 miles/35 minutes one way and have sever lower back pains that go away after a good night's sleep. However, they are excruciating enough that I need a solution. I had a Suzuki cruiser with no back issues before this. I am 5 feet...

Re: R1150R Maintenance Decisions - Not because you asked
This is a great resource :-) May be it can go to the Archived Maintenance Forum. I just got the used bike and wanted to do the maintenance. The bike had 4500 miles on it with last service done by BMW dealer when the bike had 600 miles. This was in July 2005. Here is what I am planning to do. Change:...

Getting a 2004 R1150R
I have been lurking on this site since April 2005 (and even before that because I remember the saga of old board migrating to new board). Coming to the point: I will be paying 7K for the slate blue 2004 R1150R with 4500 miles, ABS and heated grips. I will be going to look at the bike on Monday. Is t...

No Dealer nearby :-(
I am considering a used low miles 2003 R1150R. Unfortunately there is no dealer nearby. I wanted to know if this should be a concern. Not that I am mechanically challenged, but I have never done anything more that oil changes and brake pad replacement on Japanese bikes.
Thoughts?
Thanks!!

+1 All this is explained very well in books by Hough ([more] profecient m/c), Parks (total control) and Code (twist of the wrist (1 and 2). Shorter wheel base means you have to lean lesser for a given turn at a given speed. Conversely, shorter wheel base will let you go faster for equal lean angles ...
