Re: Battery Failure
Where did you get an exide for £36??? Do tell... Ive started to get abs warning. Fault code was low volage. As my 2007 bike has its original battery, i reckoned on a replacement - she was starting to crank a bit slower than usual too. Bought a Varta YTX14-BS for £60 a week ago. Thought it would be ...

Re: Water cooled GS spied
What's the down side of water cooled engines? Complexity and maintenance. With increased complexity comes increased changes for failure. (Law of Unintended Consequences.. which is why I also think nuclear reactors are really dumb.. but I digress..) Lets put it this way, if they could overcome emiss...

Re: Water cooled GS spied
I heard a rumour and nothing more than that, they are supposed to be selling the watercooled along side the oil cooled for a period of time then eventually phase out the oil cooled. Personally speaking the attraction to the R1200R was because it is not water cooled so I guess I will be purchasing on...

Re: Oil Pressure Switch
Well I have eventually got this task completed, the thread was an M12 x 1.5, I had a lot of trouble getting this to work out as the T piece to pick up the old oil pressure switch and the new sensor were not able to fit within the limited space and even if I was able to there might have been other is...

Oil Pressure Switch
I promise I have searched for this but simply cannot find the info.
Does anybody know the thread size for the Oil Pressure Switch, I am trying to assemble the components to install an oil pressure gauge
and this is all that is holding me up.

I cannot believe how many people are just stubbern and have a NO infront of every sentence that they spell on this thread... the guy asked for direction how to increase power ...and he got some nice answers like : buy another bike ! get and k1300 .... On this forum there are no modified r1200r or 1...

Re: What IS or ARE the solution(s) to increase power engine
Well, the fellow asked for our opinion and I respectfully gave mine based on years of riding and listening to many people's attempts to squeeze more power out of this engine. I don't see how anybody's replies could be considered beating on the guy. Some good suspension, maybe a couple track days an...

Re: My car gets better MPG than my R1200R
I have a 2010 VW TDI wagon. It's running neck & neck with the bike on fuel efficiency, if not beating it. Pretty sad. What tune-up areas should I focus on? It might be running neck & neck for fuel efficiency but not on performance, your R1200R is miles ahead = more fun. Also I bet your car ...

I use one of these, very robust but expensive. I bolt it down on a trailer to help secure my bike if I want to trailer it anywhere also for the purpose of what you have mentioned.

I would also check out the UK prices, I think we are much cheaper on used bikes at the moment, an excuse to have a good ride back to Germany.

Re: Castrol Oil 20w-50
I have to agree with Don on this one, to check first thing after an overnight park. What I do not understand is BMW telling me to run a potentially low oil level up to temp, to then check it, ok so it should be done at the end of a day's use but we all know that is not always practical for many reas...

Re: Hold onto your air (well, air and oil) cooled boxers
Umm no its an air cooled engine with oil cooled exhaust valves according to the manual. I have mentioned this to you before Don. Correct me if I'm wrong (not counting spelling or grammar). So - the engine is air cooled but the exhaust valves are oil cooled. I know German engeneering is good but tha...

Re: Hold onto your air (well, air and oil) cooled boxers
I think water cooled engines tend to weigh less than air cooled for the same configuration and displacement size. I doubt if you include all the parts of the water cooling if that's true.. and we don't have an air cooled engine - it's oil cooled. Air is the medium that removes heat from the radiato...

Re: Difference between 2011 vs 2010 R12R's and earlier?
See the Ash on Bikes review of the 2011 R1200R Classic A useful side effect is that the tingling, high frequency vibration which blighted the older, high cam boxer twins at high revs is reduced almost to nothing. The previous valve gear was responsible for this and the vibes have gone with it. He l...

Better not happen in the UK
Just copied this from a Versys forum: The French government has had decided the following. Some of the measures can be seen as good, some as bad, depending on your point of view. 1. They are going to remove all speed radar warning signs. Now, they are placed a few hundred meters before speed traps. ...

Re: Engine blown - experiences with oil?
surely I'ld have noticed leaks everywhere wouldn't I. The story moves on, BMW warranty have said it's not a warranty issue, the level of oil use sounds OK to them. missing the point rather, it's not the oil use that's the issue, it's the total failure of the bike to warn me that my engine was so ho...

Re: Performance
Using the speedometer to calculate the mph/1000rpm at 5Krpm I am reading 90 maybe 92 from memory. So if I use 18mph/1000rpm at 135 its about peak bhp @ 7.5K rpm. Allowing for an up to 10% speedo error that would approx equate to 125mph at 7.5K. So I am probably getting a true 130mph out of mine but ...
