Re: New Speedster Windshield

Todehnal, I had the opposite problem - my bike was fitted with the flyscreen and I wanted to remove it for Summer. I went to a BMW Motorad dealer and got two shorter bolts from them. The smaller bolts, ie the bolts you already have, should have a thread length of 25mm. The bolts you require to fit t...

Broken Mirror Glass

Hi All,

The glass in one of my rear view mirrors is broken (2001 R1150R). Is it possible to disassemble the mirror assembly and fit a new piece of glass?

Thanks

Re: Strange idle behavior on manometer

Rob, The underlined part describes a fluid level that travels upward slowly/steadily, inch by inch, with an ever widening liquid level gap until it topped over the manometer top loop, allowing the engine to eat it all. Is that correct? Yes, that is correct. If I had not switched off the engine the f...

Rob,

I'm a goose! I sent the wrong emoticon  . I meant to send this one :)

You would think a man who spent his working life in IT would be better at this stuff.

Re: Strange idle behavior on manometer

Rich, Thanks for the suggestion. I am assuming that you mean the hoses on the Manometer. If so, I have checked them and they do not appear to have any cracks. Just to be sure tomorrow I will cut a little off each tube and try again to see if the results are the same. Rob, Thanks again for your repli...

Re: Strange idle behavior on manometer

Thank you all for your replies. To answer some questions and provide more info: 1. They fitted the ‘update’ timing chain tensioner components 2. I had been on a 40km ride before I started to look at the idle & synch, so the engine was well warmed up. 3. Rob, my hearing isn’t all that good these ...

Strange idle behavior on manometer

Hi All, I am trying to get my 2001 R to run a little smoother. I made a Manometer following Cyclerob's instructions - thanks Rob for this and so many other things. The bike has just had a major service and some other work performed by BMW Specialists with a good reputation but not a BMW Dealer. The ...

Re: 2002 Piedmont Red r1150r

I was just going through the paperwork for my MY 2002 R, build date May 1st 2001, which must have been one of the first 1150R's built. The colour of the bike on the original Delivery Advice from BMW Australia is stated as 'Red 3 Metallic'. If I recall correctly, the colour changed to Piedmont Red th...

Low seat option

Hi All, It's been a long time since I posted here. I no longer have one, but I have had three 1150R's and I am thinking of getting another. Can't seem to find a bike that's as good :) I have seen one for sale that has the "low seat option". Does anyone know whether a bike with the low seat...

Another Aussie Onboard!

G'day Damo,

Well it's been a very long time since I posted on the board, but I just bought another 1150R (my third), so I'm back. I got a demonstrator, also from Southbank. I think that's the last of their stock.

See ya round

Corbin or Sargent

I've done tens of thousands of miles on both Corbin and Sargent. My personal preference is for the Corbin, although I currently have a Sargent. My wife (pillion) also prefers the Corbin. Both are excellent seats, and very comfortable for a long time. They both start off very firm, but the Corbin see...

Removing grips

G'day All, It's been a very long time since I posted, mainly due to being rather disgruntled that my BMW Dealer can't or won't fix the constant vibrations on my '04 model. However, I've decided to try and minimise the effects rather than run it over a cliff. So, can anyone give me some tips on remov...

Lane splitting and the impact of bikes on traffic.

G’day All,, My daughter has to give a talk at school on a topic that is currently in the news, and she has chosen “Lane splitting”. Lane splitting is technically illegal in some (all?) Australian states, but the law is not generally enforced. The “National Transport Commissi...

My Mum and Keith Haynes call me Nigel, everyone else calls me Nige.

Fossil is a nickname based on my surname Foster. These days it's seems quite suitable for the silver-haired guy who has appeared in the mirror of late.

The same thing happened to me. I went back to the Dealer and queried it and they gave me a full tool kit. From what the Manager said it happens quite often.

OK to drop it?

Well, just to put another side to the story. I had a Shoei RF900 that I rather hastily tried to hook over the left side mirror a couple of weeks ago. I didn't hook it too well, and the helmet fell and bounced off the footpeg of the bike next to mine in the parking lot and onto the ground. I had a cl...
